MediaTek is increasing the supply of chips used in "smart" columns, which will further raise the company's financial performance in the third quarter of 2017, reports DigiTimes with reference to market sources.

According to insiders, MediaTek received orders for the supply of chips for the next generation of Amazon Echo and Google Home devices with the functions of personal voice assistants. In addition, to produce smart speakers that run on MediaTek chips, Chinese companies Alibaba, Tencent and Xiaomi will be assembled in 2017.

It is expected that due to new orders the supply of MediaTek chips intended for smart devices with voice assistants functions will grow 10 times this year, and in 2018 they will increase by 100%.

Against the background of the high demand for MediaTek SoC solutions for various electronics, including smart speakers, televisions and smartphones, experts forecast a two-digit quarterly sales growth for the chip maker in July-September 2017.

Earlier, the Taiwanese microprocessor manufacturer reported a significant increase in revenue last month - the June result was the highest in more than six months. At the end of the second quarter, MediaTek's sales amounted to 58.08 billion Taiwan dollars (about 1.9 billion US dollars), which is 3.56% more than the result of three months ago. The revenue coincided with the chip maker's forecast, which included a range of 56.1 billion to 60.6 billion Taiwan dollars.
