Technical difficulties so far prevent the mass production of displays on miniature LEDs (micro-LED), but if these difficulties can be overcome, the cost of these displays will be lower than that of the current LED displays. According to the manufacturers of LEDs, the difference compared to LED displays with a pixel pitch of 1.25 mm is about 30%.

An example of a micro-LED display is a 110-inch indoor display that Sony has set up this year for CES. It uses the Crystal LED Integrated Structure (CLEDIS). Part of this technology is the transfer of micro-LED crystals to a common substrate. While the manufacturer was not able to prepare this technology for implementation in batch production, so the cost of the display is too high for commercialization.

It is expected that in portable electronics, micro-LED displays will appear no earlier than 2020.
