Polish Prime Minister Beata Shidlo wrote a letter to the leaders of the European Union (EU) regarding the issue of choosing a candidate for the presidency of the EU.

In the letter, Shidlo asks not to support the current head of the EU, the Polish politician Donald Tusk in re-election for a new term, writes Polish Radio.

The letter explains why Poland can not support the candidature of Tusk, and why the European Parliament deputy Jacek Sariusz-Wolski is the appropriate candidate for this post.

According to the government spokesman Rafal Bohenek, the letter was written in connection with the EU summit, which will be held on March 9, where a decision will be taken on the issue of electing the head of the council for another term.

"Also a very important argument contained in this letter is the problem that may arise in connection with the choice of someone to chair the European Council contrary to the decision of the country of origin of the candidate. Such a non-standard situation is unlikely to contribute to strengthening ties between the members of the European Union, "said Bohanek.

As reported by the "Observer", the leader of the ruling party of Poland, "Law and Justice" Jaroslaw Kaczynski admits that Warsaw can issue a European warrant for the arrest of Tusk in connection with the Smolensk air crash that occurred in 2010.
