American researchers believe that the hormone oxytocin is able to relieve severe headaches, according to the BBC.
Scientists from Stanford University conducted a study in which patients with severe headaches lasting at least 15 days per month. All subjects received oxytocin in the form of a nasal spray. As a result, half of the patients reported that their condition improved by at least 50%, and 27% of them reported that the drug completely relieved them of pain after four hours.
Experts plan to develop a new medicine for headache based on oxytocin, but more research is needed to study the possible risks and side effects.
