The legendary British singer Vera Lynn, who entertained British troops during World War II with her songs, on Monday celebrated the centenary. Lynn became famous for the song We'll Meet Again and other, which became the voice of the British hope during the war with Nazi Germany.

In honor of her birthday, a gigantic image of a young Vera Lynn was projected onto the White Cliffs of Dover, a national symbol that became the theme of one of her most famous songs.

Three days before her birthday she released a new album Vera Lynn 100, which includes old favorites in new orchestral accompaniment. One of them is a military hit "The White Cliffs of Dover" ("There Will Be Blue Birds"), which looks forward to the future world "when the world is free". The "Blue Birds" meant the RAF pilots because of their blue uniforms.

With one of her previous albums released in 2009, Lynn became the oldest living artist whose album won first place in the UK ratings.

Lynn, the daughter of a plumber and dressmaker, began her singing career as a child, speaking in working clubs. Her first solo album came out when she was 19 years old.

She became very popular during the war and traveled to speak before the military. In 1975 she received the title of Queen from Queen Elizabeth. Her last public appearance took place in 1995, at the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Victory in Europe, in front of Buckingham Palace. This is reported by Radio Liberty.
