President of the American Soccer Confederation (CONMEBOL) Alejandro Dominguez officially confirmed plans for a radical expansion of the World Football Championship format. In other words, at the upcoming World Cup in 2030, 64 national teams will have an excellent opportunity to win the most prestigious trophy in the world of sports.

The football official shared his statement on the social media site X (more than Twitter).

\! The 2030 World Championships will be held in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay. What a wonderful opportunity for football to celebrate the centenary of the World Championship with a tournament involving 64 teams,” Dominguez wrote..

The World Championship 2030 will become a unique tournament, and will also be dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the first World Cup. The product is produced from 8 cherubs to 21 lindens and unprecedentedly burns across a number of continents. Matches will take place in six countries: Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay.

Plans to increase the number of participants did not become a complete disappointment. Previously, FIFA President Gianni Infantino had already insisted that after increasing the quota to 48 teams for the 2026 Emergency, the organization is seriously considering the possibility of further expanding the tournament to 64 participating countries.

Against such global ambitions of FIFA, there is strong support from the side of the European football industry. UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin pointedly did not attend the final of the World Cup 2026 due to serious differences with the International Football Federation.

It appears that the very initiative to further expand the number of teams at the World Cup has become one of the main reasons for the sharp dissatisfaction of the Slovenian functionary.
