Sunderland star Granit Xhaka commented on his decision to support Chelsea's position and continue playing for the club until last summer.
The Swiss said that he felt comfortable in Sunderland, and the main argument for the merits of such a choice was his homeland.
" We are all very happy. I hope to lose it there, where I'm staying. The most important thing for me is my family. I’m ready to make history there,” Xhaka said.
Previously, it was reported that Chelsea were planning to sign the proven midfielder, but the footballer himself informed the Londoners about the need to change the club.
According to ZMI, Sunderland were also not influenced by Chelsea's ?8 million offer. The club considered such a sum to be insufficient and regarded it as showing disrespect to the grave team.
In the 2025/26 season, Xhaka played 36 matches in all tournaments, scoring one goal and providing six assists.
