In Ukraine, dynamic pricing is currently applied to premium class carriages (SV), in which the cost of tickets changes depending on demand, travel time and occupancy of the flight.. If demand is high, the price may increase, and on less popular or half-empty flights, the price may decrease in order to fill carriages more efficiently and balance passenger flow.. The head of the board of Ukrzaliznytsia, Alexander Pertsovsky, spoke about this in an interview with the media.. He explained that currently dynamic pricing only applies to the premium segment. At the same time, the ticket price is not fixed - it can either increase or decrease depending on the specific situation.. According to Pertsovsky, if we are talking about popular routes or peak days, for example on Friday evenings, when demand for tickets is especially high, the system can set a higher price. It is noted that this makes it possible to ensure the availability of tickets for passengers for whom it is important to travel at this particular time. “When on Friday evening a fairly high price can be set for a popular train, but for those for whom it is important to leave right then, this opportunity remains available,” explained Pertsovsky.

At the same time, on less popular days or on flights where there are still empty seats, the system works in the opposite direction. If the CB carriage is at risk of leaving half empty, ticket prices may be reduced to encourage more passengers to use this particular class of carriage.. As the head of the company explains, in this case, some passengers who initially planned to travel in a compartment can choose a more comfortable SV carriage at a lower price. As a result, seats in compartment cars are freed up for other passengers, and the occupancy of the train as a whole becomes more balanced. " Someone from the compartment will transfer to the SV, and the seats in the compartment will be freed up,” Pertsovsky noted. According to him, such a model is not a simple increase in ticket prices.. Its main task is to find a balance between supply and demand, making the most efficient use of available seats on trains. In addition, dynamic pricing makes the premium segment more cost-effective. The head of Ukrzaliznytsia notes that it is thanks to this system that SV cars today practically operate without losses, while socially important categories of transportation remain accessible to the population.

Pertsovsky emphasized that a similar principle has long been used by transport companies in many countries around the world.. In his opinion, dynamic pricing is one of the most effective mechanisms for managing passenger flow and allows for better distribution of demand between different classes of cars. However, such a system does not yet apply to all Ukrzaliznytsia tickets.. It is valid only for the premium segment, but in the future the company does not exclude the possibility of gradually expanding this mechanism.
