Sampdoria continues to search for a new head coach before the start of the new season, and one of the contenders for this position is the famous Dutch coach Mark van Bommel.

According to journalist Nikolo Skiri, the Genoese club's management included the 49-year coach on its shortlist. Also among the candidates is the Spanish Julio Velasquez, who recently brought Levski to the championship title in Bulgaria, breaking the rich dominance of Ludogorets.

Van Bommel will be out of work from 2024 after the completion of the merger with the Belgian Antwerp. In an hour of work in the club, he won the Belgian championship and established himself as a promising mentor. Last year, the Dutchman was also linked to possible recognition from the Scottish Rangers.

Sampdoria finished the 2025/26 season in 13th place in the Serie B standings. The team spent the final part of the campaign with the signing of a large player to the club, Attilio Lombardo, but the team continues to consider options for the long-term development of the team.
