“In the evening, the Kyiv police received a message from passersby that they had witnessed an unknown person trying to set fire to a bank branch on Grigory Skovoroda Street. District police officers, detectives and the investigative team of the Podolsk Police Department immediately arrived at the scene of the incident and detained the attacker,” the report says..
Law enforcement officers established that the day before, a 23-year-old man met a girl in instant messenger and agreed to meet with her.
“However, he soon received a call from unknown people who introduced themselves as SBU officers.. The latter convinced the guy that his new friend, whom he was waiting to meet, was working for the aggressor country. To avoid responsibility, the pseudo-law enforcement officer suggested that he set fire to the bank branch where the girl’s accomplice allegedly works,” the police said..
That same evening, a Kiev resident came to the bank branch with a lighter and a plastic bottle of gasoline.. However, the arsonist was prevented from completing his plan by passers-by who called the police..
The detainee was informed of suspicion under the article on an unfinished attempt to intentionally damage someone else's property by arson (h. 3 tbsp. 15.00. 2 tbsp. 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The court chose a measure of restraint for him in the form of detention. The man faces up to 10 years in prison.
