Glory to Ukraine!
Glory to the inhabitants of Ukraine and all modern civilization!
Many people have suffered from barbaric Russian attacks in recent days. Light and Eternal Memory of the lost... Renewal and hope of the wounded.
News from the USA. Thursday, May 14, 2026 * From the visit of the 47th president to Beijing, many for some reason expected some kind of “epoch-making” decisions, a solution to world problems. Someone who replaces reality with virtual dreams called the visit “historic” and “the main event of the year” in advance.. In Ukraine, some people had expectations that somehow Trump would negotiate with Xi to end the war or that Xi might play some role in ending it.
All this is actually infinitely far from reality.
This visit was no more " Then “superpower” was determined by the presence of nuclear weapons reserves in the United States and the USSR, sufficient for mutual destruction, on the one hand, and by the fact that the United States and the USSR were leaders of blocs and systems completely opposite to each other - the free and communist worlds, respectively.. The goal of the USSR was to spread its influence in the world by establishing communist and pro-communist regimes in all its corners. The goal of the United States was to counteract this and economically force the USSR to change policy. It was really a confrontation between two completely opposite systems.. Opposite not only ideologically and politically (liberal democracy on the one hand and a communist dictatorship thirsting for expansion on the other), but also economically (market economy on the one hand and the Soviet planned economy on the other).
Now the situation is different. " Market economy. USA is the world's first economy. China is second. Other countries don't come close. Economically, only the EU as a whole can be compared with the USA and China - all 27 countries combined. China is ruled by a communist dictator and a communist party that differs from its Soviet predecessors in that it does not spread communism or try to establish a communist system in any other countries. But they involve other countries in their sphere of influence through the economy - investments and assistance in exchange for political support. And at the same time they are building up their weapons, intending to catch up with the United States and Russia in the number of nuclear warheads soon enough - within 10 years.
Rivalry with China is a much more complex and serious challenge for the United States than rivalry with the USSR. Because in the USSR there was economic stagnation, a lack of economic development, which was already replaced in the 1970s by its decline and gradual decline, which turned into its complete collapse in the 1980s. China has a modern, highly developed economy, perhaps the most developed industrial production in the world, and is the world's largest exporter of all kinds of goods. The USSR could spread its influence only through the establishment of communist regimes, which nowhere brought people anything except poverty and repression. China is spreading its influence through economic expansion. The USSR was defeated in the Cold War due to its complete economic failure. This does not threaten China in any way.
Just like the meetings of American presidents with Soviet leaders, their meetings with the leaders of the PRC are intended to make the confrontation between the “superpowers” \u200b\u200bmanageable in order to avoid an open clash in a military conflict. But the agenda of meetings with Chinese leaders is completely different; American presidents have to discuss other problems at these meetings. The main part of the agenda is problems related to the economy in the broadest sense.
Trump's negotiations with Xi were primarily about this, or generally about this. It was not for nothing that the 47th president took with him an entire delegation of heads of the largest American companies. He is occupied with a “super-valuable” idea - to equalize the trade balance between the United States and China (the United States buys much more goods from China than China buys from the United States, and this trade deficit, while at times slightly decreasing, has been trending upward for many years).
Trump wanted Chinese airlines to buy a lot of planes from Boeing.. For China to increase its purchases of American soybeans. Provided opportunities for American companies to do business in China on favorable terms for the United States. To prevent China from imposing restrictions on US purchases of rare earth minerals.
This was Trump's main agenda..
From all this, it was clearly possible to agree that Chinese airlines would buy 200 aircraft from Boeing.. Actually, it's quite a strange situation.. The President of the United States negotiates with the dictator of the People's Republic of China that seemingly private Chinese companies will buy airplanes that are produced not by a supposedly private, but by an absolutely private American company. These are the features of the Chinese market economy, so to speak, a market economy with state influence.
Donald Trump spent two days lavishing public flattery on Xi Jinping, calling Guo a "
Trump went to China in a weak negotiating position. His apparent defeat in the trade war he tried to start with China in the spring of 2025 led to him not only retreating, but sharply changing his position towards China. Stopped criticizing China, stopped calling China an enemy. The National Security Strategy, the administration's main foreign policy document, published in December 2025, stated that the United States could have smooth relations with China, as long as China does not interfere with the United States' international trade..
The war with Iran, started by Trump on February 28, not only did not become his victory, but today has led to a crisis - Iran’s blocking of the Strait of Hormuz, an increase in the price of oil, all energy resources and energy, and the rise of inflation in the United States itself and other developed countries. Trump probably dreamed of coming to Xi as a winner in control of Iranian oil. But in reality, the 47th president is extremely far from making this dream come true.
All that Trump himself could tell about his negotiations with Xi on Iran was Xi’s promise not to supply Iran with weapons (according to Trump), that Xi is against Iran acquiring nuclear weapons, and that Xi is in favor of free navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Apparently, Xi did not tell Trump how to achieve this. It is possible that Xi could advise his guest to agree to the Iranian proposal - unblocking the Strait of Hormuz, and then negotiate (possibly very long) about the Iranian nuclear program.
Xi Jinping has his own agenda - Taiwan. And the Chinese communique on the talks said that Xi Jinping told Trump that "
And American journalists covering Trump’s visit to China say and write that China is asking the United States to change the wording of its policy towards Taiwan from “The United States does not support Taiwan’s declaration of independence” to “The United States opposes Taiwan’s declaration of independence.”. And also, as journalists report citing sources in the American delegation, China asked the United States to be more careful about sales of American weapons to Taiwan. Trump himself avoided journalists' questions about Taiwan and pretended not to hear. Secretary Rubio said US policy towards Taiwan has not changed. Whether the policy has changed or not will be judged by whether the US will continue to sell arms to Taiwan, or whether the delay in approving the next sale, which is taking place now, will last indefinitely.
As his sources in the American delegation told CNN, before traveling to China, White House employees were warned about serious potential cybersecurity risks associated with staying in China..
Members of the delegation and Secret Service agents guarding the president were given “disposable” phones and devices with new numbers; at the same time, they were warned that even these phones could potentially be hacked in China.
Most American officials left their personal phones and tablets either at home or, turned off and in special protective cases, on board the government aircraft on which they arrived and will fly home..
Trump's visit to China ends on Friday.
But there is no doubt that this is a visit to maintain a “controlled confrontation” and nothing more.. No world problems will be solved during this visit. For China, the United States remains the number one geopolitical enemy, but at the same time the number one export market. China, as it was interested in weakening the United States and in the split between the United States and other liberal democracies, naturally remains interested in this.
And China, no matter what Trump says about his friendship with Xi and no matter how much he flatters him, remains the number one geopolitical adversary for the United States in reality. This defines and will continue to define the relationship between the two countries.
* 218 signatures were collected in the House of Representatives to consider the bill on assistance to Ukraine. This bill was introduced many months ago by Democratic Congressman Gregory Meeks of New York.. Speaker Johnson, who determines which bills are included in the agenda and considered, and which are not included and not considered, naturally did not want to consider this bill, since Trump did not want it to be considered.
Then Congressman Meeks began collecting signatures for a petition to force consideration of the bill. According to the rules of the chamber, such a petition obliges the speaker to include the bill on the agenda within two weeks if 218 signatures are collected (50% +1 of the constitutional number of deputies in the Chamber - 435). Every single one of the Democrats signed the petition.. Until 2018, three signatures were missing. Two of them were given by Republicans Fitzpatrick from Pennsylvania and Bacon from Nebraska.. The third signature came Wednesday from independent Congressman Keeley from California, who left the Republican Party in March..
The bill provides for the allocation of $1 for military assistance to Ukraine. 3 billion and the provision of a long-term loan for the purchase of American weapons worth $8 billion, as well as the allocation of American assistance for the restoration of Ukraine.
The bill will be considered within the next two weeks. If all the Democrats, two Republicans and one former Republican who signed the petition vote for it, it will pass by a majority of one vote..
The Republican vote on this bill will be the biggest indicator of whether any of them, other than the two signatories of the petition, are willing to openly oppose Trump on an issue of fundamental importance to him.. I think that if anyone is ready, there will be very few of them (and even then, this is an optimistic assessment).
However, this bill, if passed in the House of Representatives, has no chance of being considered in the Senate, unless Trump suddenly wants to consider it (this is impossible to imagine). The Senate agenda is set by Republican Majority Leader Senator Thune. He doesn't put anything on the Senate agenda that Trump doesn't like.. And, if he did, then among the Republican senators there would be at least a dozen, and maybe more, who would vote for such a bill along with the Democrats.
In response to a perhaps reasonable question, I will say that the Senate rules do not provide for the possibility of putting a bill on the agenda by collecting the signatures of a majority of senators.
It is also important to note that this bill clearly shows one of the important directions in which the next, 120th Congress will work if the Democrats win the elections on November 3.

Ultimately, what happens in the world depends on us. Whether we fight evil, do Good, remain simply observers, wait passively and believe that someone somewhere will decide something for us, or fight evil and do everything possible so that Good wins.
We must not allow evil to win.. The victory of evil will mean the end of the world we live in. We cannot allow this. Especially now.
Ukrainian Friends, I hug and love you so much. Take care of one another, I beg you.
Ukraine is and will forever be.
