The leader of the Druga Rika group, Valery Kharchyshyn, shared a funny story about his flight on an old Ukrainian-made Antonov aircraft, during which he was seriously afraid for his own life.
The musician voiced the memory in the “Critics” project, which made the host, music critic Max Nagornyak, laugh. We are talking about events more than five years ago - even before the full-scale war, when flights around Ukraine were a common occurrence, and Kharchyshyn himself was married to Yulia, whom he divorced in 2022.
According to the artist, then he flew to Dnepr for a concert, while other members of the group went by ground transport. The musician admitted that the flight took place on an old Antonov plane, which did not make the best impression on him. He recalled with humor that he remembered well his own feelings during the flight.
" The boys got into the bus and drove off, and I flew away. It was some kind of decrepit " He was shaking so hard that even the hairs in my nose were shaking.. And when he took off, I managed to write a message to my wife: that we have no debts, my accounts are such and such, my card is such and such. I’ve already said goodbye to life,” said Kharchyshyn.
Kharchyshyn remembered his wife’s reaction to his “dying message”. According to him, she took the situation much easier than he expected.
“My wife read it and there were emoticons with rivers of tears,” the singer noted.
According to the artist, the flight lasted about an hour, but subjectively it seemed much longer due to fear and tension. He compared his thoughts during a flight with an anecdotal situation when a person manages to think about his whole life in a matter of seconds.
“It’s an hour to fly, but my thoughts are like in that joke: how a lover was caught by her husband and he jumped from the 22nd floor, flew, got caught on a tree, and while he was flying, he thought - I’ll never go to my mistress; and then thinks: I was flying for three seconds, and this shit pops into my head. I was flying the same way and thought that I had time to write everything,” added the musician.
