“The song will be between us” is one of the main hits of Vladimir Ivasyuk. This song is now regaining its popularity and has even become the main theme of the largest music show “Guess the Melody”, which has been airing on Sweet TV since March 19. 45 of the most popular Ukrainian stars took part in the show, including Artem Pivovarov, Tina Karol, Irina Bilyk, Taras Tsymbalyuk, Evgeniy Klopotenko, Vasily Baidak and others.
The song is dedicated to Galina Tarasyuk, a journalist and poetess, with whom Ivasyuk was passionately in love in Chernivtsi. Vladimir wrote it at the age of 22, and then made edits for several more years.
Ivasyuk did not allow other artists to work on the song. He himself recorded not only the vocal part, but also the piano and violin to show the perfect sound. This attention to detail shows how important this composition was to him..
The song immediately became a hit and even crossed the Iron Curtain and went beyond the USSR. Vinyl records with it were exported to the countries of the socialist camp - Poland, Czechoslovakia, East Germany.
The perception of this song as “prophetic” did not arise immediately, but after the tragic and mysterious death of Vladimir Ivasyuk in 1979. Five creepy coincidences you can't ignore:.
sacred title-promise The very name of the song after Vladimir’s death began to be perceived as his creative testament. The line “The song will be with us” is interpreted as a statement that the author will remain alive in his music, even if his physical life is cut short.
This turned out to be true: despite the prohibitions of the Soviet government, Ivasyuk’s songs continued to be sung “between people” even after Ivasyuk’s mysterious death.
The metaphor of “autumn” at 22 is an accident? The lyrics often mention autumn:.
" "
For a young man (Ivasyuk was only 22 when he wrote the song), such a fixation on the “autumn of life” and farewell looked very unusual. However, these words turned out to be prophetic. Just a month after his 30th birthday, the composer's body was found hanged in a forest near Lviv.. The authorities immediately declared it a suicide, despite the signs of beating on the body.. Today the words of the song are like a premonition of premature extinction and a short life path, as if a young composer at the peak of fame had a premonition of his tragic end.
Premonition of separation without reason The song contains the words: “No one knows how love came and how it left us.”. This uncertainty and the suddenness of the disappearance of feeling in the song was subsequently projected onto the circumstances of his death.
No one knew exactly (and official discussions are still ongoing) exactly how his life ended. The lines that “everything passes” began to be perceived as his inner readiness for the fact that his earthly path could be interrupted.
A funeral that became a protest When tens of thousands of people came to Ivasyuk’s funeral in Lviv in 1979, despite the authorities’ ban, many whispered this name.. People said: “He promised that the song would be between us - and he kept his word.”.
The Soviet government tried to hide the circumstances of the composer’s death, but the people showed with their mass farewell: Ivasyuk defeated the system. His songs became a symbol of resistance.
Today, decades after the tragedy, “The Song Will Be with Us” continues to live, reminding us of a talented composer whose life was cut short too early, but whose music became immortal.
And the fact that this particular song is heard again throughout Ukraine on the air of a popular show only confirms: Vladimir Ivasyuk really kept his promise. His songs remain among us forever.
