As of February 2026, the verified archive of the “Unfinished Writings” initiative contains 289 names of literary people whose lives were cut short by the Russian-Ukrainian war. The updated reference list was published by the project team on Facebook.
The list includes writers, poets, translators, editors, publishers, librarians and researchers - both military and civilian. The “Unwritten” team emphasizes that war not only destroys people, but also tries to erase their presence in culture, striking a blow to language, memory and identity.

The erasure of the identity of the people, the authors of the initiative note, is happening gradually - due to the loss of voices, texts and environment. They note that they exist precisely to “prevent this from happening.”.
“Memory and texts must remain in our culture, even when their authors can no longer speak for themselves,” said the authors of the project.
An updated version of the list is available as an open and verified archive. At the same time, the list is not complete and is supplemented after confirmed data becomes available.. If anyone knows the names of people in literature who are not on the list, the team asks to report it.
As Suspilne Kultura reports, Nedopisani documents Ukraine’s cultural losses in the war, recording texts, research and publishing projects of those whose lives were cut short by Russia.. The authors of the project are the writer and paramedic of the volunteer medical battalion " They began compiling the list in the spring of 2023, when it included 48 names.
