Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa arrived on a visit to Moscow. This was reported by Russian media on Wednesday, January 27.

The Syrian leader is expected to meet with Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin.

" There will also be a separate conversation between the “president” and Mr. Sharaa. There are many issues on the agenda related to bilateral cooperation, primarily in the economic sphere. Also an exchange of views on the situation in the region, especially since there is something to talk about,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

In his opinion, relations between the Russian Federation and Syria are “actively developing”: “After the change of leadership, we had a separate meeting of the mixed intergovernmental commission last year following the results of Mr. Sharaa’s previous visit to Moscow.”.

“As for the issues of the deployment of our armed forces on the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic, this is again the prerogative of the Ministry of Defense, and we recommend contacting them. Although, I have no doubt that all topics related to the presence of our military in Syria will also be raised today at the negotiations,” Peskov said in response to the question of whether Russian troops are really withdrawing from the Qamishli airbase in Syria.

At the same time, the Kremlin representative refused to comment on the issue of the extradition of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
