Snowfalls and blizzards, ice and freezing rains complicated traffic not only on roads. On the evening of January 8, Ukrzaliznytsia warned that extreme weather conditions across the country also affected train traffic.
The press service on its Telegram channel warned about possible flight delays. Troubles are observed, in particular, in the Kyiv region.
There, due to the fall of a 110 kV external line support onto the railway contact network, one of the sections was temporarily de-energized.
“This resulted in a delay of a number of trains, among which the most noticeable was on flight No. 10/9 Budapest - Kyiv. However, the obstacle has already been removed, power is applied and the trains are restoring traffic one by one. For those flights that arrive in Kyiv during the curfew, with the assistance of the Kyiv City State Administration, bus transfers around the city are provided,” said the Ukrzaliznytsia (as of 22:20 Thursday).
“Ukrzaliznytsia trains continue to move,” the railway workers concluded.
The western regions of Ukraine were covered with snowfalls on January 8, and snow and ice complicated the movement of vehicles and pedestrians. Kilometer-long traffic jams formed on the roads of the Lviv and Ternopil regions, and traffic on the Lviv-Ternopil highway actually stopped. Residents of the Kiev region observed winter icy rain, while at the same time the Odessa region, where the temperature is higher, was covered by regular rains.
As of 21:30 on Thursday, there were more than 142 thousand customers without power in the Kyiv region, while energy workers managed to restore power supply to 30 thousand consumers.
Ukrainian educational institutions were recommended to switch to remote work (or extend the winter holidays) if difficult meteorological conditions are observed in the region.
