Russia is going to withdraw from the European Convention to prevent torture and inhuman or humiliating the dignity of circulation or punishment. This is stated in the decree of Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, reports The Moscow Times.

The Convention itself was adopted on November 26, 1987. Russia signed it on February 28, 1996, and ratified - March 28, 1998. The Convention not only prohibits torture, but also obliges to prevent them. The signatures of the Convention are also obliged to cooperate with the European Committee on the Prevention of Torture (ECPK) - an independent international body that should conduct inspections in prisons, colonies, pre -trial detention centers, psychiatric institutions and other places of imprisonment.

The Russian publication recalled that in March 2022, after a full -scale invasion of Ukraine, the Russian Federation was excluded from the Council of Europe. Since then, the terrorist country has been a member of the Convention only formally. In turn, the ECPK reported that the Russian authorities did not respond to requests for cooperation. Moreover, this concerned both monitoring visits to places of imprisonment and providing data on anxiety cases, for example, the death of Alexei Navalny.

According to The Wall Street Journal, after the full-scale invasion of Russia to Ukraine, the heads of regional departments of the Federal Penitentiary Service of the Russian Federation (FSIN, or Russian FSIN) ordered their subordinates to be especially cruel with Ukrainian prisoners of war and not neglect the use of force. “Be cruel, do not regret them,” said Igor Potapenko, head of the Department of the Federal Penitentiary Service of the Russian Federation for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, employees of the employees of elite units of the service who were instructed to control the flow of prisoners. Similar instructions were received by employees of the service in other regions.

However, Russians are trying not only prisoners of war, but also civilians, in particular journalists. Ukrainian journalist Victoria Roshchina did not survive. Victoria Roshchina's body was returned to Ukraine only in February 2025. According to " INFO ”, the invaders cruelly tortured her and hid her from checks: the journalist had stab wounds on the journalist’s body, and the weight before his death did not exceed 30 kilograms. And the authors of the Victoria project said that they had to exchange the grove in early September 2024, but the Russians tore off the exchange. Soon after, Victoria died. According to investigators, in the body that was returned to Ukraine, there were no organs - the brain, eyeballs and part of the trachea. This may indicate that the cause of death was strangulation.

In addition, for the entire time of the occupation of the Crimean peninsula, many cases of improper handling of the Crimean Tatars are recorded, who were imprisoned in falsified matters. In particular, this content in inhuman conditions, non -ordering of medical care and the like.
