First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and a representative of the Ukrainian delegation at negotiations with the Russian Federation Sergey Kislitsa, said that the site in Istanbul is not able to ensure a real breakthrough in the termination of hostilities. The diplomat said about this in an interview with "
" In fact, it comes down to agreements on the exchanges of prisoners. But if we are talking about real decisions to end the war or a stable truce, then in authoritarian Russia only one person has real power to solve something - and this is Putin himself, ”Kislitsa explained.

According to him, even during previous bilateral meetings in Turkey, the Ukrainian side insisted on the need to organize a personal dialogue between President Zelensky and Vladimir Putin. However, he noted, the Russians act according to their logic: first they require concessions, and only then they allow the opportunity to meet leaders.
Ukraine has repeatedly emphasized that the Kremlin’s position is nothing more than recirculated ultimatums of past years. " Without a direct conversation between Zelensky and Putin, or possibly with the participation of Donald Trump, you should not expect a breakthrough, ”the deputy minister emphasized.
Kislitsa also noted that there is no information on the new date of possible negotiations between Kiev and Moscow or plans to repeat previous meetings in the Istanbul format.
Recall that earlier there were assumptions that Russia used the Istanbul track to delay time and prevent the imposition of new sanctions from the United States and the European Union. According to the diplomat, this strategy, unfortunately, partially gave the result.
It was also reported that the date of the new round of negotiations between Ukraine and the Russian Federation in Istanbul will be announced after June 22. Meanwhile, Vladimir Zelensky on June 19 announced his readiness for direct negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to him, it is advisable to end the war with the cadence of US President Trump, that is, until 2029.
