Ukraine in the current and next heating seasons counts on the gas of its own production, but the need for imports is also not excluded. For this, Naftogaz Ukraine will develop a separate procurement strategy - in case of a deficit covering in the gas transport system.

This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal following a meeting of the anti-crisis energy headquarters on February 18. The meeting took place after gas reserves in Ukraine were reduced to a record mark of less than 10% of the volume of storage for February, while Russia intensified attacks on gas infrastructure.

" Naftogaz is instructed to prepare a gas import strategy, in case of additional necessity, to cover the possible deficit in the gas transport system. Ukraine should be prepared for all possible options, ”Shmygal said.

At the same time, according to the head of government, preparations have already begun for the next autumn-winter period. The planned indicators for the extraction of Ukrainian gas and filling the storage facilities for this year are already determined. "

Shmygal also said that the meeting paid special attention to the protection and restoration of gas infrastructure in the context of Russian shelling. In particular, this also applies to underground gas storage facilities.

" The Ministry of Energy is given an instruction to coordinate the process with the military, ”the Prime Minister noted.

Recall that in Ukraine in February 2025 historically low gas reserves were recorded in storage-almost the first time the level decreased to a mark of less than 10% of the volume of storage. This creates the risks of a real deficit.

Although fakes are actively distributed on the network about planned shutdown schedules, now even in the worst of the scenarios, they do not plan to introduce any restrictions on the population. At the same time, probably when maintaining low temperatures, you will have to increase gas imports.
