Work in night shifts can adversely affect health, especially on hormonal balance. French researchers found that women working at night for more than four years are at risk of serious illnesses.
The study was attended by 1,200 women who were diagnosed with breast cancer. Their lifestyle was compared with 1300 women without such problems. It turned out that the night schedule of work increases the risk of developing the disease by 30%. This is due to violation of circadian rhythms affecting the production of melatonin - hormone, which inhibits the growth of malignant cells.
Additional studies have shown that the effect of night change on health is multifaceted. Changes in sleep and wakefulness mode can lead to hormonal malfunctions, a decrease in immunity and chronic stress. All these factors create favorable conditions for the development of serious diseases.
Scientists from the University of Liverpool also analyzed 252 women who later developed breast cancer and compared them to the control group. It turned out that women with the asymmetry of the mammary glands more often faced this diagnosis. Although the exact cause of such a connection is not established, it is assumed that the difference in breast size may be associated with the effects of estrogens - hormones playing an important role in the development of cancer processes.
Despite the identified patterns, most experts agree that the asymmetry of the breast in itself is not a decisive risk factor. A genetic predisposition, as well as a way of life, including the level of physical activity, nutrition and the effect of harmful environmental factors, has a significantly more influence.
To reduce possible risks, experts recommend paying attention to healthy sleep, even when working in night shifts. It is also important to undergo regular examinations and lead a lifestyle that helps to strengthen the body's defenses.
