Brazilian director Guto Pashko, who was born in the family of Ukrainian emigrants, brought his parents to Ukraine. His ancestors left for Brazil at the end of the 19th century, so that the scriptwriter’s mother and dad were never in our country, although they continue to communicate on Solovyin.

" I remember when in 2005 I first flew to Kyiv, the first thing I thought: “This is not what Dedo told me! " Only when I arrived in Lviv, then to Ternopil, when I traveled around the villages, there I recognized my native Galicia described by my grandfather, ”the screenwriter shared.

As Guto Pashko noted, for his parents a trip to Ukraine also became an absolute adventure. The father and mother of the director never left Brazil and did not fly on an airplane, so the trip was saturated with a large number of new impressions.

The screenwriter remembered how, while walking along the streets of Kyiv, his relatives heard the Russian language and thought that Ukrainian sounds just like that. This forced mom and dad Guto Pashko to worry strongly, because they believed that no one could understand them.

" When they heard Russian in Kyiv, they thought that this was a real Ukrainian language, and not the one in which they spoke in Brazil. And they were very worried that no one would understand them! Family on the line of the father - Pashko, originally from the village of Yasenov, the Lviv region, and along the line of the mother - Tarnavsky, originally from the village of Skvarzhava, which is now also belonging to the Lviv region, but before the Second World War belonged to the Ternopolism. In Galicia, their Ukrainian language understood, and they finally felt at home, ”the director shared.
