Poland’s decision to invest $ 14.7 billion in the construction of the first nuclear power plant confirms the strategic importance of atomic generation for European energy safety. In the context of refusing energy resources of the Russian Federation, a number of European countries are betting on expanding their own nuclear capacities.

This was stated in a comment by RBC-Ukraine, People's Deputy Anatoly Costuch, commenting on the approval of financing of the Polish nuclear project.

Ukraine cannot remain away from this process, and the completion of two power units of the Khmelnitsky NPP is a key step to strengthen energy independence.

" Ukraine should also act - to complete the Khmelnitsky nuclear power plant and increase its own atomic potential, because this is not only a matter of energy, but also a strategic choice of the country, ”the costume emphasized.

He also recalled that Poland is not the only country in Europe that actively develops nuclear energy. France, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia are erected by new nuclear capacities, and Great Britain invests in the development of small modular reactors.

" Ukraine has every opportunity for this, including thanks to cooperation with Bulgaria on the purchase of VVER-1000 reactors. However, the decision should be made now, otherwise we risk being a situation of chronic electricity deficiency, ”the people's deputy noted.

The costume also criticized political speculations regarding the bill on the purchase of reactors in Bulgaria and noted that the HEES delay in the completion of the Ukrainian energy system puses.
