Residents of Minnesota (USA) Kylie and Jay McCoy acquired an old manor, planning to turn it into comfortable housing for themselves and their seven children. However, during the reconstruction of the spouses made an unexpected discovery: their house, built in 1895, did not have a full -fledged foundation and stood on clay and several manual stones. This writes What's The Jam.
The discovery of this problem was a serious test for the family. The excavator, which began work on the south side of the house, could not find a strong foundation, and further digging threatened the collapse of the dining room.
After long discussions and revision of the budget, McCoi made a radical decision: raise the house by 18 inches, remove clay and stones and build a full basement. The total cost of work amounted to more than 50,000 dollars.
" This forced us to revise our plans and abandon some planned improvements, such as a wood fireplace and a sauna for my husband’s health, ”Kylie said.
During the reconstruction, the family was forced to temporarily move to Jay's parents. The work dragged on, and for several months the entrance to the house was carried out only up the stairs. However, the unexpected discovery was not limited only to the foundation: in the old tank hundreds of bottles and even a couple of ancient dentures were found.
The couple acquired the house in 2010, dreaming of once to become its full -fledged owners, and after 14 years their dream came true.
Despite difficulties, they did not refuse to be conceived and intend to not only preserve the historical building, but also return its former greatness to the estate to the estate. With the advent of spring, the family plans to engage in the improvement of the territory, establish fences and expand the farm.
" This house is important for our family, and we want future generations to be proud of it, ”Kylie shared.
