There is an opinion that computer games at the workplace are a direct path to reducing performance and reducing the responsibility of employees. However, if you think about whether there are always small breaks, including gaming ones, it can be useful for concentration and performance? The problem of games during working hours is not as clear as it might seem at first glance, and some studies show that games for games can really have a positive effect on the effectiveness of work.

Working in the office, the employee is faced with the monotony of tasks: the same papers, the same calls, repeated operations. Constant concentration in one case without interruptions reduces productivity and causes fatigue. To avoid this, it is important to take small breaks, switching attention to other activities. For example, if you have worked with the text for a long time, it is useful to switch to paperwork, calls or organizational tasks. This helps reload mental energy.

So how do they relate to computer games if they can be the same break as any other action? Once in virtual reality, a person temporarily “turns off” his brain activity from everyday duties, which then helps him return to work with new forces. Of course, it is important not to cross the line, when the games begin to occupy all working hours, but short -term game breaks can really contribute to the restoration of concentration and increase performance.

Interestingly, a number of studies conducted, for example, in North America, showed curious results. Rocky Mountain Institute studied the impact of games, in particular, role-playing online games, on people's behavior. It turned out that they not only do not harm social skills, but on the contrary, help people be more confident in real life. Games, unlike widespread stereotypes, do not cause addiction and do not cause such harm as other forms of dependencies.

Moreover, at the workplace, this type of breaks can really play a positive role. When an employee feels that he has the opportunity to get distracted, his emotional state improves, and he returns to tasks with less stress and fatigue. This, in turn, can lead to more efficient performance of work duties and increase the general level of satisfaction with work.

Of course, it is important to observe the balance. Games should not become the main activity at the workplace. However, a properly organized break with a game can not only restore strength, but also increase performance. So, before strictly prohibiting such moments at work, it is worthwhile to think, perhaps this is exactly what is needed to maintain high performance of employees.
