Traditional Ukrainian Gombovites with cheese: what, besides pancakes, prepare for Shrovetide-2025

Gombovtsy is one of the most popular desserts of Transcarpathian cuisine. At its core, these are cottage cheese pies, steamed and drunk with panning.

How to cook Gombovites know for sure the chef Valery Matrokhin. On Instagram, she introduced a recipe and gave accurate proportions of preparing this incredible Transcarpathian dessert.

Ingredients Method of Cooking 1. Choose cottage cheese dry, without excess fluid. Add yolks, flour, semolina, sugar to it and knead everything with a fork until a homogeneous mass. Let stand for 10-15 minutes.

For a cream in a large bowl, beat sour cream with halva.

We form the dough and roll into a sausage, if the dough is too sticky, then you can still sprinkle with flour.

We cut the sausage and form the Gombovites, putting strawberries inside.

We send it to salted boiling water, let it go to the surface and cook a few more minutes after that.

Pour the breadcrumbs in the pan and fry a little, then combine crackers with sugar and roll pitching.

Serve with halva sauce.
