On Monday, January 27, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky arrived in Poland. He will take part in events for the 80th anniversary of the liberation of one of the largest Nazi death camps-Auschwitz-Birkenu (Auschwitz).

The visit of the Ukrainian leader to Warsaw was not announced in advance. This was reported by the Suspilne publication with reference to the press secretary of the OPU.

According to him, the program of the president’s visit to the neighboring country also includes bilateral meetings, in particular, with the President of the European Council Antonio Costa and the leader of France Emmanuel Macron.

Recall that on January 27 the world celebrates the International Day of Remembrance of the Holocaust Victims. On the morning of this day in Kyiv, Vladimir Zelensky, together with rabbis, diplomats and representatives of the Ukrainian authorities, paid tribute to the memory of the millions of dead - men, women and children who became victims of this tragedy.

In Poland, memorial events are being held, to which leaders of a number of countries are invited, as well as a group of 50 former prisoners of Auschwitz. The main celebrations on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the death camp will begin at 16:00 local time (17:00 in Kyiv). The presidents of France, Italy, Austria, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Germany, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Hungary, and Moldova will come to Auschwitz.

Also at memorial events will be attended by the King of the UK Charles III. The American delegation will be led by US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff.

This memorial event recalls the tragedy of the Holocaust, when approximately six million Jews, 1.5 million of whom were from what is now Ukraine, perished during World War II in ghettos, labor and concentration camps, and as a result of mass executions because of their nationality..

Most of the actual murders of Jews during the Holocaust took place in death camps in occupied Poland, the persecution of Jews, their eviction in the ghetto and deportation from the houses took place in front of their non -Jewish neighbors in cities and villages throughout Europe.
