Ukrainian companies have built hundreds of megawatts of distributed generation capacity for their own needs and are in no hurry to connect such stations to the energy system due to the unresolved problem of debts in the electricity market.

This was announced by Andrian Prokip, an expert on energy of the Ukrainian Institute of the Future.

“Debts on the market, including the balancing market, remain a problem and obstacle to profitable work.. There is a situation where, having sold electricity, you can expect to receive funds for a year or a year and a half. And such a situation, of course, does not stimulate “enter the market” even to those who have already built their own generation, ”said Prokip.

According to him, in Ukraine there is a clear trend of commercial electricity consumers building generation for self-sufficiency and without connecting to the network exclusively for their own needs..

"

According to the expert, business representatives may not understand the features of connecting to the network and working in the market in order to trade in electricity, earn money and quickly return the funds invested in energy generation.

"

He said that in 2024. The debt in the balancing market in front of the NEC Ukrenergo increased by 12.7% and reached 34.5 billion. UAH. In turn, the debt of Ukrenergo to suppliers of balancing services amounted to UAH 13.6 billion.

" This is a key prerequisite for the appearance of a new generation that is extremely necessary in conditions when the enemy regularly destroys the energy system. Administrative methods and bureaucratic orders will not work new generation, ”the expert summed up.

As previously reported, according to experts, the government, parliament and the National Energy Commission must save the energy sector from paralysis due to the existing constantly increasing multi-billion dollar debts.
