Candidate for Chancellor of Germany, leader of the conservative CDU, Friedrich Merz, said that if he wins the election, he will make a fair end to Russia’s war against Ukraine one of his foreign policy priorities.

Merts said this at an event in Berlin on January 23, writes Der Spiegel.

Speaking about stopping Russian aggression, Merz noted that Ukraine must “win the war” and be able to independently choose political and military alliances.

Note that Merz refrained from commenting on a possible aid package of 3 billion euros to finance further arms supplies to Ukraine.

Like current Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Merz stressed that Germany should not become a party to the conflict.

Earlier, the CDU/CSS included in his election program to support Ukraine and the expansion of sanctions against Russia.
