It is premature to talk about the US position regarding the possible reduction of the mobilization age in Ukraine to 18 years, since official contacts with the new White House administration have not yet begun. This was announced at a briefing by the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Georgy Tikhiy.

According to him, Ukraine still adheres to its official position, according to which the country urgently needs to expand its defense capabilities, and their provision should occur as soon as possible.

Tikhiy also emphasized that there are concrete opportunities for strengthening the defense capability of Ukraine in the short term. In particular, we are talking about the provision of long -range weapons, modern technologies and intelligence, which can contribute to the successful conduct of military operations.

Tikhy noted that discussion of the topic of mobilization remains outside the scope of priority negotiations, and Ukraine should wait for official contacts with the new US administration.

Earlier, on January 12, 2025, future national security adviser to US President Donald Trump Michael Walz said that the new administration intends to invite Ukraine to consider lowering the mobilization age to 18 years.
