Two Kazakh banks, namely Home Credit Bank and Kaspi Bank, have suspended the issuance of debit cards for non-residents who do not have a residence permit. Although, if the first bank announced that registration has been stopped indefinitely, the second one plans to restore the option from February 3. The Moscow Times writes about this.
Moreover, the new cards will only be valid for a year, unlike those issued before January 19. Owners of the latter will be able to use them until the expiration date initially specified by the bank.
The innovations are related to the decision of the Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market of Kazakhstan, which on January 14 limited the validity of payment cards for non-residents to 12 months.
An exception was made only for businessmen, investors and diplomats. Thus, the Agency intends to “minimize the risks of using banking services in the field of illicit drug trafficking and digital assets”.
In addition, the Kazakh regulator has reduced the number of cards that can be issued by one non-resident. Previously the limit was 10 pieces.

Let us recall that the banks of Kazakhstan “supported the Russians” and, in fact, provided the opportunity to pay abroad, in particular in the EU. After all, Russian cards have stopped working in many countries.
