Speaker of the German Federal Government Steffen Gebestreit said that it is too early to say which of Ukraine’s partners may participate in possible negotiations between Kiev and the Russian Federation on ending the war. In general, the decision on a possible dialogue with the Russians should be made only by Ukraine, its vote is decisive.

There can be no talk of any contacts between other countries with the Russians about the war without Ukraine. A representative of the German government made this statement at a briefing on Thursday, January 16, Ukrinform reports..

" This means that if there are negotiations, Ukraine will definitely be at the table. The fact remains that Ukraine is the decisive factor in this issue, and nothing can be decided over its head,” the speaker emphasized.

Gebestreit also said that for now there is no point in talking about other participants in the possible negotiations between the Russian Federation and Ukraine. He urged to wait and “see how events develop in the coming weeks and months.”.

The most important thing is that such negotiations, if they take place at all, are held in accordance with international law, that the interests of Ukraine are clearly taken into account, and that Kyiv plays an active role in the negotiations.

It is also important that Ukraine speaks to the aggressor from a position of strength - all partners strive for a strong Ukraine.
