Ukraine's transition from the dollar to the euro as the exchange rate-setting currency will be long and slow - this process will continue gradually over 5-10 years and Ukrainians will practically not feel this. It will be carried out thanks to an increase in the volume of transactions in the hryvnia-euro pair.
This was announced by People's Deputy Bohdan Kitsak (Servant of the People). He noted that the transition will also be achieved through:.
" Will this happen in a year or two This statement is completely false. This is a 5-10 year perspective and everything will happen gradually,” the people’s deputy said.
In turn, MP Andriy Nikolaenko (Batkivshchyna) emphasized: untying the hryvnia from the dollar for the sake of the euro is important, first of all, for business. But ordinary people will not feel this - after all, “Ukrainians live in hryvnia, and will live in hryvnia”.
" And Ukraine will receive currency revenues no longer in dollars, but in euros. Considering that the declared European integration course and the EU is a much larger trading partner than the United States, this looks like a reasonable step,” he said.
Earlier, the first deputy head of the NBU, Ekaterina Rozhkova, said that there would be no sudden transition from the dollar to the euro - everything would happen slowly and imperceptibly. At the same time, she emphasized: now is not the best time to untie the hryvnia exchange rate from the dollar for the sake of switching to the euro. After all, the country is in a state of war.
The very transition from the dollar to the euro, according to her, will benefit the Ukrainian economy. In particular, Rozhkova noted, in the context of Ukraine’s desire to join the European Union.
" If we want to become part of the European Union, to have access to their markets as exporters and importers, it is clear that we must be tied to the currency in which most transactions are carried out. So this is the inevitable future. Just like our membership in the European Union,” noted the first deputy head of the NBU.
However, she emphasized, there is no talk of specific dates for the transition.. " – Ed. ) is another question,” Rozhkova summed up.
