Greenland's Prime Minister Mute Egede announced the island's desire to gain independence from Denmark in his New Year's address.. On January 10, Mute Egede said that he was ready for negotiations with Trump and emphasized that the Greenlanders strive for independence and want to “be masters of their own home.”.

On January 11, the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine refuted a fake spread in the Russian media about a clause in the security agreement on February 23, 2024, according to which Ukraine is supposedly obliged to defend Denmark in the event of a US attack.
