Former Milan and national team defender Simon Kj?r has retired from football.

This will officially become known on Friday, when the corresponding statement from the ex-football player is published.. Now TV 2 has published only part of the farewell video.

Kjaer said that he was thinking about retiring in the fall of 2023, but remained in Milan until the end of the season. The Dane played his last match in his career on May 25, 2024 against Salernitana.

" I made this decision not after the summer, but a year before the European Championships.

In fact, thoughts began to arise already in the fall of 2023. Then I realized that my time in Milan was coming to an end. . I knew there couldn't be a better ending. The farewell that was at San Siro and this experience... I realized that this was my finale.

I didn't feel the need to announce anything to anyone other than myself at all.. Looking back, I can easily say that I could have easily done even more and something even more significant after Milan. But I don't need it. That’s why we’re talking about this in January – a loud farewell wasn’t important to me,” admitted Kj?r.

Let us remind you that during his career the defender managed to play in Germany, Turkey, Italy and France. Kjaer also has 132 caps for the Danish national team - this is the second most in team history. Simon gained enormous fame after an episode at Euro 2020 in a match against Finland, when Eriksen lost consciousness. Kjaer was the first to help his partner.

Earlier it was also reported that only the Real Madrid veteran came out to talk to the press after the Super Cup.
