The Baltic countries and Poland plan to invest 600 million euros in protecting transmission networks, as well as develop measures to detect and repel drone attacks. ERR writes about this.

Related projects aim to improve the security of critical energy infrastructure.

The head of the board of the Estonian energy company Elering, Kalle Kilk, expects that the projects will receive support from the European Union Fund.

The projects focus on activities that help prevent all types of attacks. Kilk stressed that more protection will be needed, for example, from drones.

He stated that three high-voltage overhead lines between Estonia and Latvia will be closely monitored. Some of the projects involve monitoring underwater infrastructure.

As Kilk said, the total cost of the projects is 600 million euros, and this is a preliminary amount.

He confirmed that about a third of the funds will be directed to Estonia, and most of the remaining funds will be distributed between Latvia and Lithuania, and part of the investments will be directed to Poland.

As reported, the countries of the Baltic region have agreed to create a “drone wall” to protect their external borders using UAVs.
