In the last year, many new public and charitable organizations have appeared in the Kherson region. This is associated with the desire of Ukrainians to help restore de-occupied communities and eliminate the consequences of the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric station. Other border areas where there is active fighting are also showing significant growth, but not as much. What is the reason, in an interview with ZN. UA was explained by the executive director of ISAR “Yednannya” Vladimir Sheygus, with whom Olga Chekis spoke.

According to Sheygus, there was a lot of social activity in the Kherson region in peacetime. There people became more experienced, because they were involved in certain projects and initiatives.

“This is all about a high level of social cohesion. Accordingly, there is still serious activity there,” Sheigus noted..

However, he noted that in other regions such activity is less. In particular, in the Sumy region, according to Sheygus, there was no such cohesion and social activity.

“A study of the cohesion index was recently published, and I was interested in the fact that, for example, in the Kherson and Mykolaiv regions its level is higher than in the Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv regions. I can imagine that people unite more when it comes to survival,” Shagus concluded.

Let us recall that with the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation, the main activity of civil society became assistance to the armed forces of Ukraine and victims of Russian aggression. At the same time, in 2023, the share of organizations for which assistance to the army was the main area of \u200b\u200bactivity decreased by 5% (from 43% in 2022 to 38% in 2023).

At the same time, after the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, citizens’ trust in volunteer and public organizations increased. Currently, volunteers and non-governmental organizations are among the public institutions that Ukrainian citizens trust the most.
