In Ukraine, citizens who have a complete or partial disability can apply for a disability pension if they have an insurance period provided for in Art.. 32 of the Law “On Compulsory State Pension Insurance”. The Main Directorate of the Pension Fund of Ukraine (PFU) in the Donetsk region spoke on its own Facebook page about the peculiarities of assigning a disability pension.

How is a disability pension determined?.

The PFU noted that the cause, group, time of onset of disability, the period for which disability is established are determined by the medical and social examination body in accordance with the law.

“Persons who have been diagnosed as disabled have the right to a pension depending on the disability group, if they have a certain insurance period at the time of the onset of disability or on the day of applying for a pension,” the message says..

This type of pension is assigned for the entire period of disability determination.. Persons who have reached the retirement age established by Article 26 of Law No. 1058-IV are granted disability pensions for life.

How much insurance coverage do you need to receive a disability pension?.

The PFU explained that persons have the right to a pension depending on the disability group and if they have insurance coverage:.

for group I – from 1 to 10 years;

for groups II and III – from 1 to 14 years.

The size of the disability pension is calculated as a percentage of the age pension:.

Group I – 100% old-age pension;

Group II – 90% old-age pension;

Group III – 50% old-age pension.

The Fund added that in order to assign this type of pension to determine the disability group, you need to contact the PFU authorities no later than three months from the date the disability was established.

“If this deadline is missed, this type of pension is assigned from the date of application,” the message says..

Can a disability pension be awarded regardless of the amount of insurance coverage?.

The PFU explained that a disability pension is assigned regardless of the length of insurance coverage, if the disability occurred during compulsory military service or as a result of injury, mutilation, concussion or other health damage received while participating in the Revolution of Dignity from November 21, 2013 to February 21.
