In 2023, almost the same number of car thefts were recorded in Ukraine as before the start of the war - 1,278 crimes, reports OpenDatabot.. This is almost 90% less than in 2022, when a record number of car thefts was recorded - 12,448 cars.. For comparison, in 2021 this figure was 1,148 stolen cars.

Half of car thefts last year occurred in three front-line regions. For the second year in a row, the Donetsk region is in the lead - 375 thefts, followed by the Kherson region - 178 vehicles.. And the Dnepropetrovsk region closes the top three anti-leaders - 168 car thefts. The smallest number of car thefts in 2023 was recorded in the Ternopil and Ivano-Frankivsk regions - 4 car thefts for each region.

Most often last year, criminals stole cars - 59% and trucks - 15%, and least of all - scooters: less than 1%. The most popular brand among car thieves last year was VAZ - 206 cars or 16% of the total number. The top also included: GAZ - 60 (4.7%), Volkswagen - 46 (3.6%), Renault - 42 (3.3%) and Hyundai - 30 (2.3%). As for models, the tastes of car thieves have changed somewhat compared to previous years. Thus, in 2023, the following models were most often stolen: VAZ - 2107, 21063, 2121, 2106 and DAEWOO - LANOS.

In total, the registry recorded 78,395 car thefts as of the end of January 2024. The oldest record of a stolen car was entered into the register on July 8, 1980.

We would like to remind you that the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy supported bill No. 10380, which provides for the introduction of customs clearance of cars in the “Diya” application.. The bill removes the human factor from the process of determining the customs value of a car, from which customs duties are calculated.
