None of the Ukrainian tennis players could overcome the first round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Montreal, Canada. In her opening match at these competitions, Marta Kostyuk (No. 32 WTA) lost to Chinese Zheng Qinwen (No. 24 WTA). The fight lasted 2 hours 10 minutes and ended with the defeat of the 21-year-old Ukrainian with a score of 2:6, 6:1, 3:6. During the game, Kostyuk completed 5 innings right through and made 5 double faults. Another Ukrainian Lesya Tsurenko (WTA No. 44) was supposed to play Croatian Petra Martic (WTA No. 35) in the first round of this tournament, but withdrew before the match due to an elbow injury. Thus, all Ukrainian tennis players stopped participating in the tournament in Montreal.. Earlier, Angelina Kalinina and the first racket of Ukraine Elina Svitolina could not overcome the starting circle of the competition. Kalinina lost to American Sloan Stevens (4:6, 6:7), and Svitolina suffered a crushing defeat from another US representative, Danielle Collins (2:6, 2:6).
