Ukrainian tennis player Lesya Tsurenko successfully passed the third round of Wimbledon 2023. In a grueling match of the 1/16 finals, a 34-year-old Ukrainian (No. 60 WTA) beat Romanian Ana Bogdan (No. 57 WTA). The fight lasted 3 hours and 30 minutes.. Our compatriot lost the first set with a score of 4:6, but showed her character and won the next two games - 6:3, 7:6. Moreover, the Ukrainian took the decisive set on a long tie-break (20:18). Thus, for the first time in her career, Lesya made it to the 1/8 finals, setting a personal record at Wimbledon. Prior to that, her best result at the Grass Major was a third-round elimination (2017, 2022). For a ticket to the quarterfinals, Tsurenko will compete with the winner of the match between American Jessica Pegula (No. 4 WTA) and Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto (No. 43 WTA). Later, two more Ukrainians, Elina Svitolina and Marta Kostyuk, will play their matches in the third round of Wimbledon-2023.
