Prominent ex-Liverpool player Steven Gerrard named new head coach of Saudi Al-Ittifaq. The club from Saudi Arabia announced the appointment of a 43-year-old English specialist with a vivid video on Twitter. Deal details not disclosed.

Gerrard's last job was at England's Aston Villa, from where he was sacked in October 2022 due to poor results.. Al-Ittifaq will be the third club in the coaching career of the Liverpool legend. He also managed Rangers from 2018 to 2021, with whom he won the Scottish Championship in 2020/21.. Al-Ittifaq finished seventh in the Saudi Arabian league table last season.. Gerrard will face a very difficult task in the new campaign, as his team's opponents will be Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nasr and defending champions Al-Ittihad, who this summer signed the current Ballon d'Or winner Frenchman Karim Benzema.
