Ukrainian tennis player Angelina Kalinina made it to the final at the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome. In the semi-finals, our compatriot defeated Russian Veronika Kudermetova, who, due to the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, was admitted to the competition in a neutral status. The match lasted 2 hours 53 minutes. The Ukrainian won the first set - 7:5, after which she lost in the second set with the same score. In the decisive third set, the 26-year-old native of Nova Kakhovka defeated the Russian woman - 6:2. After the end of the fight, Angelina did not shake hands with an opponent from a terrorist country. Thus, for the first time in her career, Kalinina reached the final at the WTA 1000 tournaments.. Angelina is only the second Ukrainian tennis player in history to achieve this achievement. Before her, only the main star of Ukrainian tennis and the former third racket of the world, Elina Svitolina, managed to do this.. In the final, Kalinina will play against the winner of the match Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) - Elena Ostapenko (Latvia). It should be noted that on the way to the final, Kalinina defeated the Russian Anna Blinkova, defeated the Australian Open 2020 champion and the former fourth racket of the world American Sofia Kenin, won a strong-willed victory over the American Madison Keys and won the thriller match against Beatriz Haddad Maia from Brazil. Recall that four more Ukrainians competed at the tournament in Rome. Elina Svitolina and Dayana Yastremskaya were eliminated in the first round of the main draw, while Marta Kostyuk and Lesya Tsurenko were eliminated at the 1/16 final stage.
