Ukraine needs hundreds of millions of hryvnias in order to put storm systems in cities in order. At the same time, only a little more than 10% of streets in the country are equipped with storm sewers, reports the Ministry of Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine..

According to the ministry, the total length of streets in Ukraine in 2022 (excluding data from the occupied regions) amounted to 92.103 thousand. km.

Of these, only 9.7 thousand. km (10.5% of their total length) were equipped with a storm sewer system, and 5,012 thousand. km (10.5%) are equipped with a centralized (communal) sewerage network, which receives storm water.

The rest of the streets in Ukraine - more than 87.09 thousand. km, which is 89.5% of their total length, today they are not equipped with storm sewers at all.

At the same time, even the existing storm sewers are mostly in an unsatisfactory condition..

During 2022, storm sewers were cleaned completely (100%) only in Zhytomyr, Sumy and Kharkiv regions, while the worst state of cleaning storm systems was in Cherkasy (3.51%) region.

The total need for financing activities in 2023 aimed at improving the state of the storm system is more than UAH 528 million. This amount includes the need to finance construction in the amount of UAH 60.73 million, capital repairs - almost UAH 38.9 million, current repairs - UAH 119.73 million and maintenance of storm sewers - UAH 308.75 million.

These funds are needed for the construction of 9.93 km of storm sewers, the overhaul of more than 7.2 thousand. km, carrying out current repairs of 564.16 km of the storm water system, as well as for the maintenance and cleaning of storm sewers for almost 7.38 thousand. km.

In 2022, more than UAH 1.678 billion was spent from local budgets for construction, overhaul, current repairs, maintenance and cleaning of the storm system, including UAH 934.3 million for construction, almost UAH 170.5 million for major repairs,.

At the expense of these funds, 2.77 thousand. km of storm sewers, 164.42 km were overhauled, more than 535.54 km of storm sewers were repaired.
