You can die at 0 degrees, and feel great at 20 degrees below zero.

It's not the cold that's killing us, it's the drop in core body temperature. You can just lie on a log on a snowdrift for several hours and go to the forefathers, even if the air temperature is positive. During this time, the internal temperature of the body will drop to a critical level - up to 31 degrees - and the heart will stop.. And vice versa, even in a severe cold, a person will not freeze if he is warmly dressed and behaves correctly..

The first rule of behavior in severe frosts is to provide the body with fuel to generate internal energy that heats the body.. Naturally, food serves as fuel for us.. However, not every one: a cabbage leaf is not suitable for this, you will need a piece of fat. Fat is the best source for generating internal energy. If for some reason you cannot eat fats, they should be replaced with protein foods of animal origin, such as meat. Only after a hearty breakfast or lunch can you go outside in severe frost.

The second rule of behavior in severe frosts is the behavior. In the cold you have to keep moving. You can’t stand in one place, especially lean or sit on cold, especially metal objects. At this moment, a person loses his own heat, gives it to a colder surface.. This process is accelerated if the clothes are wet.. Even a sweat-soaked T-shirt under a jacket can speed up the process of lowering the core temperature..

Hence the third rule of behavior in severe frosts - you need to dress warmly. I think everyone knows this already: you need at least three layers of loose woolen clothes, warm and spacious shoes, a warm hat. It is necessary! From the unprotected surface of the skin, heat escapes even faster due to the evaporation of sweat.. And through an uncovered head, we lose 17% of the heat of the whole body!

It can also be lost if blood circulation is disturbed in the body.. That is why the elderly, babies, and those who suffer from diseases associated with impaired blood circulation - with the same atherosclerosis, for example, should wrap up especially warmly.. They can suffer from the cold and at a slight sub-zero temperature..

Hypothermia: your actions!

In winter, sometimes a fifteen-minute wait for transport or a short walk through a snow-covered park is enough to freeze “to the bone”. Even at zero air temperature, it is easy to get your shoes wet, get cold feet, and wake up in the morning. The first phase of hypothermia. As soon as the internal temperature of the body becomes less than 35 degrees, we can already talk about the process of hypothermia that has begun.. It is visible on a person with the naked eye: “goose bumps”, pallor, weakness, drowsiness appear, speech slows down and becomes indistinct.

The second phase of hypothermia. When the body temperature drops to 33 degrees, the manifestations become even more threatening: the skin is pale, cold and bluish. Breathing slows down to 8-10 breaths per minute, and the pulse is only 40-50 beats per minute, blood pressure also decreases. Vomiting and involuntary urination may occur. It is almost impossible to communicate with a person in this state - both speech and movements are disturbed.

The third phase of hypothermia. A person feels even worse when the body temperature is below 31 degrees. Or rather, he no longer feels anything.. The victim is unconscious, his muscles are constrained by severe spasms, and his jaws are tightly clenched.. Breathing is barely noticeable - 3-4 breaths per minute, the pulse is even less - 32-36 beats, blood pressure is so low that sometimes it is not detected, and the pupils are dilated. It is in this state that cardiac arrest occurs..

If you meet a person lying on the sidewalk in this state, please do not pass by.! And don't think if he's drunk or sober. Just call an ambulance. Just save a man from death.
