The work of the first driving schools for people with disabilities started in Ukraine. The presentation of the flagship project was held at a meeting of the Barrier-free Council chaired by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and with the participation of First Lady Olena Zelenska.

A feature of these driving schools will be adapted training programs.

According to Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Kateryna Pavlichenko, the project provides for the provision of a service for acquiring driving skills and obtaining a driver's license as part of mixed inclusive groups.

The training will include the following steps:.

medical and social expert commission.

obtaining a medical certificate.

training in a driving school on the basis of institutions of higher education of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

passing a theoretical exam at a territorial service center.

practical training and exam.

The National Academy of Internal Affairs (Kyiv), Lviv State University of Internal Affairs, Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs, Dnipropetrovsk State University of Internal Affairs, Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs (Kropyvnytskyi) have already taken part in the creation of the relevant driving schools.

“We are creating a platform of opportunities for everyone who wants to get a driver’s license, as well as relearn,” said Ekaterina Pavlichenko.

At the same time, in driving schools on the basis of these universities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it is planned to teach driving (or retrain) only up to 300 citizens with disabilities per year.
