Due to the recent earthquake in Turkey, importers began to raise prices in Ukraine for certain types of products. EastFruit project analysts report this.

Thus, the cost of imported cucumber today is 80-97 UAH/kg ($2.19-2.65/kg), which is on average 20% more expensive than at the end of last week.. It's also 33% more expensive than mid-February last year..

The main reason for the rise in price of imported cucumber was the limited supply of this product on the Ukrainian market.. After a large-scale earthquake in Turkey, the supply of Turkish cucumber was reduced to a minimum.

Key market players believe that cucumber prices will continue to rise, while prices in this segment will continue to rise at least until the end of February. Importers continue to raise selling prices for cucumbers, even though the demand for imported cucumbers in the Ukrainian market is gradually weakening due to a rise in prices..

The basis for such assumptions is the fact that so far imported cucumbers have practically no competitors on the Ukrainian market.. The harvesting season for cucumbers of the new turnover has not yet begun in most Ukrainian greenhouse complexes.

So far, only a few farms have reported the first offers of Ukrainian cucumbers, while their products are more expensive than imported ones, primarily due to higher costs, because heating costs have increased significantly due to power outages.

In Ukraine, the price of tomatoes also rises.

Turkey is also the supplier of this greenhouse product to the Ukrainian market at this time.. But even at the end of January, due to unfavorable weather conditions in Turkey, the supply of greenhouse vegetables to foreign markets significantly decreased..

At the same time, the supply of greenhouse tomatoes in the Ukrainian market was reduced to a minimum.. Most greenhouse complexes have already fully completed the sale of vegetables from the previous turnover. At the same time, the demand for these products remains consistently high, which is the main driver of price growth..

Against this background, we should mention the prices for food products published by the State Statistics Service.. In some places, the price increase amounted to almost 80% year-on-year.

According to the department, the following products have risen in price the most:.

fruits - by 77%.

eggs - by 73.3%.

fish and fish products - by 45.5%.

vegetables - by 34.0%.

sugar - by 31.8%.

oil - by 29.1%.

Bread and bakery products increased in price by 28.8%, pasta - 27.2%, cheese - 24.8%, meat and meat products - 24.1%, bread - 21.5%, milk - 19.3%, butter.

Prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco products increased by 0.8%, including for tobacco products - by 1.2%, alcoholic beverages - by 0.5%.

In January, consumer price growth accelerated to 0.8% per month (in December - 0.7%).
