Replacing old gas boilers with new ones will allow Ukraine to save up to 2 billion cubic meters of gas per year and completely abandon the import of blue fuel. Sergey Makogon, ex-head of the Gas Transportation System Operator, wrote about this on his Facebook page..
" Of course, this is a more complex project, but the result will be very significant.. Sometime in 2015-2016, Naftogaz offered to use a Chinese loan to replace individual boilers. But something didn’t work out and Groysman’s government didn’t make a decision then. Maybe this time it will work,"
According to the expert, now in Ukraine the population is the main consumer of gas, and the use of gas for individual heating systems accounts for almost 70% of the total gas consumption by the population.
“Due to the use of more energy efficient boilers, it is possible to save up to 2 billion. cubic meters of gas, which is almost 1. $2 billion a year at the market price,"
Even a reduction in consumption by 1 billion. cubic meters will make Ukraine almost self-sufficient in natural gas.

According to the ex-head of the OGTSU, this project can really be implemented by the forces of Naftogaz. In addition, the company itself should be interested in such a project..
“Now that Naftogaz has concentrated gas supplies to the population and plans to gain control over the majority of regional gas companies, such a project is even easier to implement due to the fact that it is the personnel of regional gas companies that can quickly replace such boilers.. And Naftogaz should be interested in reducing the volume of subsidized gas supplies to the population in order to reduce the company's costs for gas imports. With the current rather low gas price, the population is not very motivated to independently invest in energy saving measures, and not everyone has the opportunity to finance such measures,"
“It seems to me that this is more realistic than building 2 nuclear power units in 6 years until 2030 for $10 billion,” Sergey Makogon added..
Recall, the European Commission will finance the purchase of about 30 million LED bulbs for Ukraine. This will save 1 GW (electricity) - the annual production (unit) of a nuclear power plant.
