The International Olympic Committee (IOC) commented on the likely permission for Russian and Belarusian athletes to take part in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

A statement on the official website of the IOC says that the decision to allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to the 2024 Olympics has not yet been made..

At the same time, it is noted that the possible participation of athletes of the aggressor countries in international competitions in Asia in the upcoming summer season is being discussed..

" It's premature. Their possible participation in competitions in Asia in the upcoming summer season is being discussed.. In none of the documents published by the IOC, you will find a mention of participation in the 2024 Olympics for athletes with a Russian or Belarusian passport,"

Earlier, Ukrainian tennis star Elina Svitolina and world football legend, former head coach of the Ukrainian national team Andriy Shevchenko called to prevent Russians and Belarusians from participating in international competitions, including the 2024 Olympics.

Recall, on January 26, the IOC announced its readiness to return athletes from aggressor countries to international competitions, but in a neutral status and only those who did not support the war in Ukraine.

This caused harsh criticism from Ukrainian officials.. Minister of Youth and Sports, President of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine Vadim Gutzeit said that the national team could boycott the 2024 Olympic Games.

The NOC of Ukraine will consider the issue of a possible boycott of the 2024 Olympic Games on February 3.
