The total volume of scrap metal from Russian equipment destroyed in Ukraine during the full-scale invasion is estimated at about 250,000 tons.. Volodymyr Bubley, President of the Ukrainian Association of Secondary Metals (UAVtormet), said this in an interview with the Minprom publication..

“All those destroyed 3 thousand tanks - this is approximately 120 thousand tons of scrap. And we estimate the total volume of destroyed Russian equipment, which is still rusting in Ukrainian fields, at about 250 thousand. tons. Yes, sooner or later, all this destroyed Russian equipment will end up at Ukrainian steel plants, but it will not have any significant impact on the scrap metal market in terms of volumes, ”Bubley said..

He stressed that according to the law, all destroyed Russian equipment is considered the property of Ukraine, therefore they do not have the right to accept it for processing without the appropriate permits from the Ministry of Defense..

In total, the association predicts about 900-950 thousand tons of scrap from Russian equipment.

“If we predict steel production at the level of 6 million tons, then the billet will be about 900-950 thousand. tons. Traditionally, our main consumer is still the domestic market.. They suspended the purchase of Interpipe or Kametstal - and everyone is sitting, waiting for it to be possible to sell something there. Therefore, such a forecast for the collection of scrap metal is realistic, ”summed up Bubley.

Recall that back in September last year, Forbes calculated that Russia lost $16.6 billion worth of equipment in Ukraine.. This amount would at least be enough to raise the pensions of all Russian pensioners.
