Vessel en route from Ukraine blocked traffic in the Bosphorus

Bulk carrier MKK1 under the flag of Palau, which left the Ukrainian port of Yuzhny, ran aground in the Bosphorus Strait and caused a traffic blockage through it, said the Turkish Coast Guard General Directorate.

The bulk carrier was carrying 13,000 tons of grain as part of the UN Black Sea Grain Initiative and was heading to the Turkish city of Mersin.

According to the Turkish Ministry, the cargo ship ran aground near the village of Umuryeri. The incident was reported early on Monday as the ship was heading south.. No damage or spills reported.

Now the rescue vessel NENE HATUN and tugs KURTARMA-5, 8, 9 are at the scene and are trying to move the 142-meter bulk carrier.
